Drone mount

In 2023, I worked with the Boston production company Fourth District to make a camera mount for their drone. They used it to film their upcoming documentary lighter than air, and continue to use it today.

This mount has successfully held a camera for over a year

DESIGN CONCEPT

ONA has two stages, in its shy phrase it closes up and hides behind its protective shell. The light that brings life to ONA is contained and restricted, drawing attention to the deatils of the seaweed.

When ONA feels safe and sociale, its shell opens up, explosing its light and illuninate its surrounding with a dazzeling aray of shadows and colours. No longer is the focus on the Seaweed but the enviroemnt around ONA.

Prototyping & Experimentation

Experimentation Process_edited.png

1. Exploring and experimenting with raw seaweed
2. Designing the frame and mechanism in CAD
3. 3D printing a prototype to test the scale and functionality
4. Exploring methods to attach the seaweed to the frame panels
5. Assembling the seaweed panels onto the base

6. Testing the lighting effect on the completed shell prototype
7. Wiring the LEDs and stepper motor onto the frame
8. Programming the LED panels with an array of light patterns
9. Refining the movement of the motor to expand and contract the panels
